During the summer of 1993, teachers at a school in the neighborhood of Ciglane organized an art project for primary school children. They encouraged the children to express their fears about the war, dreams of life before the war, and their hopes for the future.
At the end of the summer, the teachers gave me the following pictures to take to the United States, in hopes of helping people understand the reality of children suffering in the siege of Sarajevo.
Today, many of these children are teenagers or young adults. Because of war destruction, they have few of the ordinary mementos children usually collect during childhood. Through this exhibit, I hope to find these artists and return their artwork to them.
If you have any information about the following pictures or people, or would like to help with mailing costs, please contact me, Linda F. Beekman, via email.
Special thanks to Bob Andelman, Ron Rocz, and Janis Mockler for helping make this exhibit possible.
